CAPT Prep Class

At the beginning of every March, the Connecticut State Department of Education requires that the Science Connecticut Academic Performance Test (CAPT), be given to the tenth grade class. The Science CAPT test will assess your child’s understanding of important scientific concepts from five different areas, as well as their abilities to apply those concepts to real-world issues. In addition, there is a major focus on your child’s use of the scientific investigation process and scientific reasoning to solve problems. The test includes a combination of multiple-choice and short-answer questions, which may require students to create graphs.  This test also asks students to have completed or be familiar with five core 'embedded tasks' which the learned in 9th and 10th grades.

Please note that our students that do not pass the CAPT as sophomores, will need to take CAPT again as a junior.  For this reason, we are providing students extra support in key CAPT areas. In the past our students who participated in the CAPT Academy performed at higher levels than students who did not.  Our goal is to surpass last year’s performance.  Please support and encourage your child’s participation in this required program.  We are asking that students attend at least 7 of the 10 weeks that the Academy is offered. Students may attend the Thursday or Saturday class.  The names of the students who attend all 10 weeks will be placed in a special lottery.

 Classes will run as follows:

1.Thursdays 2:30 to 4:30; the late bus is available to transport students home.

Dates: December 10, 17; January 7, 21, 28; February 4, 11, 18, 25; & March 3
